The case of ethical chicken production is analyzed from a systems perspective as well as from the perspective of knowledge management prerequisites of actors involved in the development. We identify the dual purpose chicken approach in the phase of sectoral fermentation, which challenges the overall orientation for the actors involved in innovation and knowledge activities. We draw conclusions for tools that could facilitate the innovation process in order to handle not-knowing, insecurity and ambiguity.
