Einsatz einer Kräutermischung zur Parasitenkontrolle bei Ziegenkitzen während der Weideperiode

Summary

The aim of this study was to examine possible effects on fecal egg count by additional feeding of a mixture of herbs to goat kids. Over two years 6 groups (allocated by
weight and duration on pasture) were examined. In each group kids were randomly allocated to control- and trial-group. First additional feeding of the herbal mixture started 10 days before the beginning of pasture for 10 days. Once a month kids were weighed, eye color was controlled (FAMACHA) and fecal egg (EpG) count was examined. No differences were seen in body weight between control and trial groups.
Differences in FAMACHA and EpG were seen only in older animals. More kids in the control groups than in trial groups were dewormed according to FAMACH recommendations. Nevertheless, it should be noted that expectations should not be overstated, when herbs as additional feeding are used during pasture and strong parasite load on pasture. Further investigations on the optimal use of herbs, whether
or not associated with an adapted deworming management were recommended.
