Summary
In 2014 the N2 fixation of spring faba beans was elevated according to high grain yields, especially in pure stands. In 2015 grain yields and symbiotically fixed N2 were
on a low level due to stress (drought, aphids). Intercropping faba beans with oat in alternate rows evoked an increasing proportion of nitrogen derived from the atmosphere compared to faba beans in pure stands. N2 fixation of faba beans at
maturity did not differ significantly between deep ploughing and reduced tillage.
