Field beans provide high-protein fodder and, as a legume, provide the soil with nitrogen. In the organic rotation, they are a welcome change from cereals.
This leaflet provides a summary on what to consider in order to cultivate organic field beans successfully from seed to delivery. It contains information on the plants, their needs and on how they should be cultivated and harvested. It also shows how to protect the field beans from weed, diseases and pests. In addition, some information about profitability and possible uses is provided.
This leaflet was made for farmers that want to begin cultivating organic field beans, but it might also be of use to conventional farmers. The information about economic aspects is specific to Switzerland.

Ackerbohnen liefern proteinreiches Futter und speisen als Leguminosen Stickstoff in den Boden. In der Biofruchtfolge sind sie eine willkommene Abwechslung zum Getreide. Dieses Merkblatt zeigt in Kurzform, woraus von der Saat bis zur Ablieferung geachtet werden muss, um Ackerbohnen erfolgreich anzubauen. Es enthält Informationen über die Pflanze, ihre Bedürfnisse und wie sie kultiviert und geerntet werden sollte. Es zeigt zudem, wie man die Eiweisserbsen vor Unkraut, Krankheiten und Schädlingen schützen kann. Schliesslich gibt es noch Informationen zur Wirtschaftlichkeit und zu Einsatzmöglichkeiten.
Dieses Merkblatt spricht hauptsächlich Landwirte an, welche bereits Bioackerbohnen anbauen oder damit beginnen möchten. Es kann jedoch auch für konventionelle Landwirte interessant sein. Die wirtschaftlichen Aspekte sind spezifisch für die Schweiz.
