Summary
Summary translation
Closing nutrient cycles is a key priority for Biohuis, an organic farmers' association in the Netherlands. Hence their proposal to raise the organic certification requirement with regard to the share of 'A-type fertilisers' (organically produced livestock manure and green composts) in total nutrient use. This would increase the dependence of organic growers on livestock farmers for supplying organically produced animal manure. Alternatively, organic growers could make more use of green manures and other plant-based nutrient sources. Green compost (composted pruning/trimming/mowing waste, classified as A-type fertiliser) has shown to be a good alternative for animal manure, except that it requires a bit more time to take effect.
