Summary
Objetivou-se desenvolver de maneira participativa um sistema de produção orgânica de cebola junto a agricultores familiares da região do Alto Vale do Itajaí, SC. Instalou-se duas unidades de produção em duas propriedades rurais, sendo uma unidade em uma propriedade no município de Aurora e outra em Rio do Sul, SC. O trabalho foi conduzido nos anos de 2004, 2005 e 2006. Os técnicos envolvidos atuavam com apoio técnico e assessoria, de modo que o saber do agricultor era respeitado para que o sistema se desenvolvesse numa forma de geração de conhecimento horizontal, onde há interação e colaboração entre os sujeitos envolvidos. A produtividade de cebola variou de 11 até 15 t/ha, similares a média regional de agricultor familiar até 2 ha (15 Vha), com baixo uso de insumos externos em relação aos sistemas com alto uso de agroquímicos. O custo da cebola orgânica foi menor com insumos externos, mas demanda mais mão-de-obra com capinas manuais. Embora a produtividade não tenha sido máxima, a produção orgânica utiliza menos insumos externos à propriedade, com redução de impactos na saúde humana, meio ambiente e custos financeiros. Os agricultores comercializaram a cebola no mercado local e em São Paulo, e foram certificados pelo método de auditagem e estão em processo de certificação participativa. Os agricultores apontam como maiores entraves do sistema a baixa disponibilidade de mão-de-obra na propriedade, a necessidade de certificação e a organização da comercialização em grupos. O trabalho facilitou a interação entre o serviço público agrícola, os agricultores familiares envolvidos nas unidades e dos grupos de que participam.
Summary translation
The objective was to develop of participative manner an organic onion production system with small farmers of Alto Vale do Itajaí region, Santa Catarina State, Brazil. Two plots of the production was carried out in two small farmers in the counties of Aurora and Rio do Sul. The research was carried out during 2004, 2005 and 2006. The agronomists of the agricultural extension and research public service provi de to technical advice and support of manner that the knowledge of farmer was considered to generate the system of manner horizontal with interaction and collaboration between subjects. The yield alternated between 11 t.ha-l and 15 t.ha-l, similar regional values to the small farmers by the 2 ha (15 t.ha-l), with low externai input farming against system with high use in agrochemicals. The cost of organic onion was lower in externai inputs, but demand more farm labor power with hand weeding. Although the maximum yield has not yet reached, the organic production use low externai inputs and reduce impacts to the human health, environment and economic costs. The farmers de ai the onion in local market and in São Paulo City with certification by audit and in participative process in developing. The farmers indicate the low farm family's labor power availability, the requirement of certification and organization of the commercialization in groups, the fetlers of the system. This work allowed the interaction between the agricultural extension and research public service, the small farmers and yours groups.
