Summary
The transmission of farmers’ skills and profession is not limited to transfers of knowledge or technical references, even if these are necessary to professionalise future farmers. Professional transmission refers more broadly to complex work situations involving persons, objects (within the meanings of artefact and intentionality) and particular conditions. These situations of transmission, during working activities, are produced by the articulation between three dimensions: 1/individual forms of involvement (in working, in learning and in transmission processes), 2/exposure to difficulties and challenges in working activities and interactions requiring new solutions, and finally 3/historical and sociological specificities of practices and areas. This article proposes to defend a method that analyses various forms of professional transmission in agriculture, considering these three dimensions. The last part aims to illustrate this method through a case of an organic farm transmission in the Alsace region.

Transmettre le métier d’agriculteur ne se réduit pas à des transferts de connaissances ou de références techniques, même si celles-ci paraissent essentielles à la professionnalisation des futurs praticiens. La transmission professionnelle renvoie plus largement à des configurations de travail complexes impliquant des personnes, des objets (aux sens de l’artefact et de l’intentionnalité) et des conditions particulières. Ces configurations de transmission se concrétisent par la mise en articulation, au cours des activités de travail, de formes d’engagement singulières (dans le travail, l’apprentissage et la transmission) ; de confrontations à des difficultés dans l’exercice du travail et dans les interactions qui s’y instaurent, nécessitant la construction de solutions nouvelles ; enfin de particularités historiques et sociales attachées aux espaces et aux pratiques. Cet article propose de défendre une méthode d’analyse de la transmission professionnelle agricole prenant ces trois dimensions en considération. La dernière partie consiste à l’illustrer à partir d’un cas de reprise d’une ferme bio en Alsace.
