Summary in the original language of the document
Summary translation
This study was developed during the agricultural year of 2007/2008 with the aim of evaluating the accumulation of mass and nutrients in the shoots of some of these green manures and the effect on the performance of maize. The treatments were: pork bean (Canavalia ensiformes), brave Ceara bean (Canavalia ensiformes), black mucuna (Canavalia ensiformes), Cajanus (Cajanus cajan), Crotalaria (Crotalaria juncea), forage sorghum (Sorghum bicolor), millet (Penissetum americanum), millet and Crotalaria in consortium, green manure mixed and sample in pousio (plants growing naturally). Maize was planted soon after management (cutting) of green manure. The experimental design of randomized blocks with four replications was used. The green manures have development capacity and nutrient cycling satisfactory at conditions prevailing South State, with greater emphasis on Crotalaria juncea, sorghum and pigeonpea. The use of green manure (legumes in monoculture and intercropped with grasses) resulted in better performance of maize grown in succession.
