Summary in the original language of the document
Summary translation
This text analyzes the process through which rural space is re-confi gured, looking at environmental policies and the range of actors in the rural milieu, family farmers in particular. Our research was carried out in two different populations belonging to the Greater Curitiba: the Santo Amaro community, made up of farmers who have been able to “modernize”, and the Postinho community, composed of farmers whose existence is socially precarious. Taking the idea that family patrimony is part of the organizational logic of family farming, we observe that in both cases a process of re-patrimonialization of natural resources has taken place, In practice, we have seen that policies for conserving nature have played a part in the constitution of a common natural patrimony, with social functions, yet have also permitted the development of social and productive practices which compromise farmers’ socio-environmental sustainability. In this regard, we can assert that space is redefi ned much more according to a technicalinstrumental logic than in accordance with a socio-environmental style of development.
