Summary
Most of the dairy farms have not applied purchased fertilisers since they changed to Organic farming. In this study it has been investigated, whether the plant nutrients in the soil have been decreased or increased during a period of 14 to 15 years. The studies have been made in Northern Germany. The P-contents in the plants remained constant, although the soil contents decreased. Within silages the K-contents increased and the Mg-contents remained unchanged. The purchase of fertilisers is not required in most cases, it is even unwanted in the case of potassium.
Summary translation
Most of the dairy farms have not used purchased fertilizers since they changed to Organic farming. In this study it has been investigated, whether the plant nutrients in the soil have been decreasing or increasing during a period of 14 to 15 years (4065 soil samples; 1035 samples of forage from grassland and from grass clover mix). The P-contents in the plants remained constant, although the soil contents decreased. Within silages the K-content increased and the Mg-content remained unchanged.
