Lange waren Saatgut und Züchtung im Ökolandbau kein Thema. Noch bevor der gesetzliche Rahmen die Verwendung von Ökosaatgut regelte, bildete sich ein Netzwerk aus engagierten Praktikern, zunächst um die Erzeugung von Ökogemüsesaatgut selbst in die Hand zu nehmen und später auch zur Koordination und Finanzierung einer ökologischen on-farm Gemüsezüchtung. Motive, Vorgehensweise und Meilensteine dieser Arbeit sowie der Aufbau einer Erhaltungszuchtbank für samenfeste Gemüsesorten werden skizziert.
Summary translation
For many years organic farming has not paid particular attention to seed production and plant breeding. Yet before the legal framewok provided regulations on the use of organic seed, a network of committed practitioners started with organic seed production for vegetables. Later they coordinated and financed an organic “on-farm” vegetable breeding. The paper outlines motives, procedures and milestones of this work. Furthermore, the establishment of a seed bank for the preservation of open pollinating vegetable varieties is sketched.
