Summary
Life cycle assessment of organic and conventional arable crop rotations - focusing on greenhouse gas emissions.
Five arable crop rotations in long-term field trials were investigated; four organic and one conventional - in three years on three different locations in Denmark. The organic crop rotations represented alternative scenarios for outphasing conventional slurry in organic systems.
Crops from rotations with grass-clover for biogas in one out of four years had the lowest carbon footprint per kg crop DM. Including soil carbon changes in the life cycle assessment affected the results markedly.
