Summary

Summary translation

The aim of the project is the production of an alternative fungicide from grape pomace. It can substitute copper-containing plant protection products in organic farming. To achieve this goal, the first step is the acquisition of pomace from organic farming and the subsequent production of a higher amount of extract following methods that are already known. The potential of the extracts from grape seeds, which are effective against downy mildew (Plasmopara viticola), will be tested under greenhouse conditions in the first year. Concurrent outdoor experiments are planned, too. The established extraction method will then be transferred to a larger scale and be optimized regarding solvent usage and recycling as well as formulation. Therefore, wetting agents like Tween20© or elicitors like salicylic acid will be tested for their potential to improve the efficiency of the extracts. Additionally, basic parameters to describe the extracts will be defined. These optimized extract formulations will then be tested under outdoor conditions in a vineyard during the second year, working under the requirements of organic farming. The results will be used for further optimization of both the production and the formulation of the product. During the third year, these optimized extract formulations will be tested again under outdoor conditions to ensure the results. During the whole duration of the project, the stability of the product will be tested under different conditions to ensure optimal storage properties. Furthermore, consistent analyses will be performed to detect heavy metal or pesticide residues.
The outcome will be a well defined product that achieves a high efficiency factor against a range of plant pathogens, is safe for the environment and can replace copper in both organic and conventional farming.
