Jacobskruiskruid (Jacobaea vulgaris, synoniem: Senecio jacobaea) is een van oorsprong in de zeeduinen voorkomende plant die uitstekend is aangepast aan veranderende omstandigheden op verschralende zandgronden. Daardoor komt de plant sinds de jaren ’70 in toenemende mate voor in weilanden. Omdat Jacobskruiskruid giftig is, is de aanwezigheid in weiland ongewenst. Zodra het in grasland voorkomt, blijkt het echter slecht beheersbaar, zelfs niet met herinzaai.
Deze studie voorziet in een overzicht van bestaande internationale kennis en ervaring rond de Jacobskruidaardvlo Longitarsus jacobaeae in de biologische bestrijding van Jacobskruiskruid. Met deze Nederlandse keversoort zijn in het buitenland reeds positieve ervaringen opgedaan, maar in Nederland is de inzet van de kever nog nooit uitgeprobeerd voor duurzame beheersing van Jacobskruiskruid.

Ragwort is a poisonous weed in grasslands. It occurs naturally in the Netherlands and is exotic and invasive in North America, Australia and New Zealand. In this literature review, the Ragwort Flea Beetle is studied. Biology, life history and distribution in the Netherlands are reviewed. International experiences in applying this beetle species in the biological control of Ragwort and the applicability in the Netherlands are discussed.
