Summary
So far there is no decision supporting tool concerning profitability of sow husbandry in
organic farming backed with respective data. In this paper a scenario simulation model
is developed which allows more funded decisions in the future. The simulation model
is structured as a full cost accounting system and is implemented as a calculation
model. Scenario planning shows the influence of the framework conditions on the
profitability and facilitates to deductively derive general information. Profitability of sow
husbandry in organic farming differs according to the framework conditions. The
imputed entrepreneurial profit is between -1.378 € und +313 € per sow and year.
Considering the current medium piglet prices, the farmer has to plan and manage very
smartly to make the sow husbandry in organic farming profitable.
