Summary
Aprés avoir été testée, sur un site en 2005 et neuf en 2006, la technique de protection physique des vergers de pommier contre le carpocapse nommée "Alt'Carpo" a été adoptée en vraie grandeur dans 15 vergers provençaux en 2007, et des tests complémentaires réalisés par ailleurs. Le suivi des 15 vergers a confirmé l'efficacité de la protection mono-rang (un filet par rang de pommier), et montré l'effet protecteur anti-grêle et ...coupe-vent. Un test en grande parcelle a comparé la maille "4 x 4" choisie sur les 15 vergers à celle d'un filet anti-grêle classique (plus large). La première a semblé meilleure, mais divers facteurs avaient handicapé le filet anti-grêle. Un test en grande parcelle a comparé les systèmes mono-rang et mono-parcelle (un seul filet pour tout le verger). ce dernier, plus pratique pour les vergers déjà protégés contre la grêle, à semblé efficace, mais l'expérimentation doit être poursuivie. Un essai de fermeture des filets avant la fin de la floraison afin de stopper la pollinisation déjà bien entamée, donc d'éviter un eclaircissage, a donné des résultats prometteurs.
Summary translation
After testing in 2005 and 2006 "alt'carpo", a technique of physical protection of apple orchards against colding moth was adopted in 15 orchards of Provence in 2007, with further, complementary tests being carried out.
Monitoring of the 15 orchards in question confirmed the effectiveness of single-row protection (1 net per row of apple trees), and showed the anti-hail and windbreaking effects of this technique.
A test carried out on a large plot sought to compare the "4 x 4" mesh (used in the 15 orchards) with that of a conventionnal (i.e. wider) anti-hail net. The first one seemed to be the better of the two, although it should be pointed out that a number of factors handicapped the anti-hail net. Another large plot test compared single row and single plot (i.e. one net for the entire orchard) systems. The latter would appear to be effective, but further tests will be required. A test involving the closure of nets before the end of blossoming period in order to stop pollination and thus avoid the need for tinning, appeared to offer promising results. Pratical advice is provided for using this effective alternative protection tool.
