Summary

Summary translation

A grazing strategy for eco pigs should include control of helminth parasites. Farmers have been posing important questions such as: how long should a pasture remain fallow and is former manure spreading crucial? A few studies have been conducted in Denmark on the mortality rate of roundworm and whip-worm, both of which can survive for a long time in soil. No corresponding studies have been conducted in Sweden until 2004 when JTI investigated the contamination of helminth eggs in the soil of arable land. The contaminated soil was included in the crop rotation at a farm using a mobile system for housing pigs; with huts and a four-year rotation interval of the pig pasture areas.
Also, faecal samples were collected from weaners and fattening pigs at two farms. These farms represented the mobile system with huts versus the stationary system with the pigs housed in a stable and a connected pig pasture area. Parasite eggs existed after the spreading of manure and in former pig pastures. The results indicated that there were considerable differences in the amount of surviving eggs between pastures used at different seasons.
