Abstract:
As increasing numbers of customers in Europe seek to purchase "green" electricity, demonstrating hydropowerïs environmental friendliness can increase its marketability and economic value. In Norway, Statkraft SF has prepared an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for the hydroelectricity produced at its 130-MW Trollheim Power Station to document the effect of the plantïs construction and operation on the environment. Transferred external costs estimates are used as a supplement to the Life Cycle Asssessment used in EPDs. The company plans to prepare similar declarations for its entire hydro fleet
Key words: Environmental Product Declarations (EPD), green electricity, external costs.
