Summary

Summary translation

Numerous parasitic diseases can be caught by grazing rumi-nants. They are often insidious and chronic, they affect the productionand cause economic losses, both quantitatively and qualitatively. As regards the parasitic diseases caught during grazing, the riskdepends very much on the climatic and environmental conditions. When several host species are necessary for the completion of theparasiteʼs life cycle, it will be mainly the presence of biotopes favoura-ble to the other hosts that will determine how dangerous the grazing ofa particular field will be, and these biotopes have to be acted upon inorder to limit infestation. On the other hand, if the parasite is harbou-red by a single host species, which is the case of for instanceTrichostrongylus colubriformis, the grazing management will play amajor role in the re-cycling of the parasites. The control strategy willthen involve agricultural and therapeutic measures to check the para-siteʼs development and to limit its adverse effect on the production. The applications of chemical pesticides have medium- and long-termconsequences, such as the emergence of resistances, the accumula-tion of residues harmful to the environment, etc.. An approach for thelimitation of these inputs is proposed in cattle farming, through a bet-ter assessment of the parasitic risk based on a more thorough analy-sis of the grazing system.
