Summary

Summary translation

This dissertation examines the impacts of a process of Agroecological transition occurred between the years 2004 and 2006, with a group of women from rural settlement of Vergel in Mogi Mirim, Brazil. It analyzes the productive dynamic and gender relations. A group of 12 women farmers, members of 6 families were examined through oral reports of life history and through the "Guidelines for Agrarian Systems Diagnosis" (FAO / INCRA, 1999) adapted to the gender approach. It was observed that on a lesser or greater degree, the Agroecological Transition Process brought impacts on the dynamics of production and income generation in lots of families relying on the optimization of resources, reduction of production costs, diversification of productive activities and channels of marketing, favoring direct sell channels. From a social standpoint, the transition has generated a greater recognition of agro-production projects of the settled women, as farmers and family members, creating differentiated products and allowing their integration into alternative markets, increasing their visibility, the exchange of experiences and improving their self - esteem. Regarding the impacts on the gender relations, a strong growth of self-esteem of the women involved was perceived, in addition to an increase in their organizing capacity, provided by the creation of the Agroecological Women’s Association (AMA). Although there has been also a great gain in knowledge about the productive practices and a strengthening of the women’s role as "collective social actors," their struggle for recognition and autonomy still finds resistance within some families and the settlement. But their achievements and demands begin to become "visible".
