Kühe mit saugenden Kälbern geben beim Melken weniger Milch als Kühe, an denen keine Kälber saugen. Zudem sind die Milchgehalte meistens nicht im Normalbereich. Denn die Kühe behalten bei der Probenentnahme oft einen Teil der fettreicheren Alveolarmilch zurück. Trotzdem sollten auch bei säugenden Tieren die Milchleistungskontrollen durchgeführt werden, die für die Milchleistungsprüfung genutzt werden können. Dieses Merkblatt beschreibt das Vorgehen gemäss dem Internationalen Komitee für Leistungsprüfungen in der Tierproduktion (ICAR).
