The genetic resources VADA, BETZES and RICARDO and cultivars BAC-CARA and PEGGY remained below 0.1% infection. Another eleven varieties stayed below a poor susceptibility of 1% infection, but 13 varieties showed more than 5% infected plants. Analysis of variance brought no difference for the locations to test the infestation, but a strong influence of the location, where the infection during flowering took place. It gives reason not to multiply susceptible varieties under organic farming at barley leaf stripe threatened locations. Breeding of spring barley should be done under infection to develop resistant varieties which can be multiplied for all genera-tions between maintaining and certified seed without any seed treatment.
