Generellt är bruna genotyper som ej näbbtrimmas mer benägna till fjäderplockning och hackning än vita leghornkorsningar. Olika genotyper visade sig från produktionssynpunkt reagera lika på förändringar i fodersammansättning, men olika från djurhälso- och beteendesynpunkt. Med de näringsmässigt strängare KRAV-regler som förespeglas träda i kraft 2001 krävs från djurskyddssynpunkt sannolikt andra genotyper, men kraven riskerar att bli högre ställda än vad som är biologiskt möjligt att uppfylla.
