For some pests the only method to control insect pests is to cover the crops with crop nets. These crop nets have important disadvantages: (1) high material costs, (2) high labour costs to install and open/close them and (3) the propagation of diseases by the humid climatic conditions provoked by the nets. Definition of the problem: Many vegetable pests like the carrot fly (Delia rosae), the cabbage fly (Delia radicum) and the Swede midge (Contarinia nasturtii) are insufficiently controlled in organic vegetable production. New, simple and cost efficient methods should be found. Project aims: Control of vegetable pests by insect fences Methodology: Field experiments in experimental and on-farm situations to define: - Technical equipment of the fences - Date of installation of fences - Maximum plot size for efficient control } }
