Produktionen tilgodeser fx fiskenes krav til gunstige iltforhold, ligesom der tages hensyn til faunaen i det omgivende vandløb (recipienten). Fiskene må højest behandles med antibiotika én gang i deres levetid og det tilsigtes at begrænse ressourceforbruget under hensyn til naturens kredsløb. I forbindelse med projektet er der udført en vidensyntese, der går mere i dybden med problemstillingerne indenfor økologisk fiskeopdræt såvel nationalt som internationalt og i europæisk perspektiv. Herunder en nærmere belysning og sammenligning af problemstillinger i forhold til regelsættene for økologisk opdræt i en række lande i Europa.
