Summary
During last years procedures were developed to calculate the N2 fixation and the N balance of grain and forage legumes under organic farming conditions. These proce-dures are distinctly improved by including the mineral soil nitrogen the legumes can use during the growing season. A system monitoring the plant available soil N was established in 2005 and 2006, which was distributed across Germany. Available soil N was assessed by means of non leguminous reference plants. Results from 2005 are recorded. It is the objective to make the calculation of the N balance of legumes inter-actively available in the near future via the internet portal ISIP (Informationssystem Integrierte Pflanzenproduktion). The target group are agricultural consulting services and organic farmers.
