Summary
Remote rural areas in East Germany are confronted with severe problems like a high unemployment rate and the migration of young people. Networks between enterprises, the public sector and civil society are viewed as being important for the rise of new development strategies and projects (e.g. in development programs like LEADER and “Regionen aktiv”). This article deals with the questions which networks and organisa-tions the organic farmers participate in and whether this engagement plays a signifi-cant role for rural development.
