Summary

Summary translation

The hypothesis is that locally adapted varieties have better chances than conventional varieties as regards competition with weeds and resistance to diseases. The project works together with organic farmers to select the varieties that are best suited for a region. Apart from good growing properties, these varieties shall also have good baking quality and good properties regarding quality and flavour. Up to the early 1960s, plant breeding had about the same conditions as organic farming today, i.e. low input of fertilizers and no plant protection agents. This early variety material is screened, but a comparison is also made with modern varieties with attractive characteristics.
