Summary
Beräkningar visar att det ekologiska jordbruket i Sverige årligen förbrukar minst 36 000 kubikmater dieselolja vilket knappast kan bedömas som långsiktigt hållbart. I ett kort tidsperspektiv har tre drivmedel (etanol, RME och biogas) under vissa förhållanden potential att göra ett ekologiskt lantbruk självförsörjande på biobaserade drivmedel. På längre sikt (5-20 år) kommer dock ett antal nya tekniker att bli tillgängliga, vilka i systemstudier visat sig ha större möjligheter. En typ av nya bränslen (främst vätgas och metanol) baseras på fordon med bränsleceller. Andra kedjor baseras på vanliga förbränningsmotorer, men drivmedel producerad från biomassa med ny teknik, exempelvis metanol, DME och FT-diesel. Projektet ska studera de nya teknikerna och deras egenskaper vid tillämpning i ett ekologiskt lantbruk när det gäller teknik, ekonomi och miljöeffekter.

Estimations show that the organic farms in Sweden annually consume ca 36000 m3 of diesel oil, which hardly can be judged as sustainable in the long term. A change-over to bio-based fuels is supported by the Swedish authorities and will be a logical step towards a food production system on the terms of the nature. Three fuels (ethanol, RME and biogas) have under certain conditions the technical potential to make organic farms self-supporting with bio-based fuels. In a longer term perspective, new technologies will be available, which in systems studies have shown better energy- environmental and economical characteristics. One type of new fuels (foremost methanol and hydrogen gas) is based on vehicles with fuel cells.
Other chains are based on IC-engines and biofuels such as methanol, DME and FTD. The main purpose for this work is to study the energy efficiency, nutrient management and total environmental load for each of the identified systems. The analysis will be based on LCA methodology and a computerised model, based on the graphical interface in Matlab-Simulink.
