Summary

Additional Summary

The maintenance of rural activities in mountain areas is important for keeping the landscape stability and the hydro-geological order. It’s possible to carry out this aim also supporting the potato cultivation. Three years' experimental trials on 5 cultivars and 2 old native ecotypes have been carried out in local organic farms located in different mountain communities (5-7 areas from 800 to 1800 m o.s.l altitude). Production parameters, physico-chemical and organoleptic characteristics of products have been evaluated. Mountain conditions and native cultivars are able to increase qualitative and organoleptic characteristics of products. Organic cultivation can be a further exploitation of this crop in mountain regions.
