Summary
Currently several studies on the quality of Swiss composts exist as well as on the impact of use of different composts on soil fertility and plant health.
Definition of the problem:
The positive effects of quality composts on soil fertility and plant health is not enough considered from so potential compost users, partly because the quality of the various composts varies considerably.
Project aims including target group:
-Characterization of the chemical and biological quality of the different compost produced in Switzerland
-Optimize the utilization of quality compost
-Improve and secure the market for quality compost
Methodology:
-Literature study
-Laboratory analyses and experiment
-Pot trials in greenhouse
-Field experiments
Results, conclusion, state of the art:
The composts analyses and the already done field trials show the big variation in compost qualities in Switzerland. The factors influencing the final compost quality are currently being studied.
