Summary

In a field experiment at the Experimental Station for Organic Farming Kleinhohenheim the effect of stubble tillage has been assessed over a period of five years. Perennial weeds were effectively controlled by stubble tillage. Annual weeds were not affected when considering the above ground populations. Shallow ploughing revealed no better effect than the other implements tested. The results show that stubble tillage is very important for the control of perennial weeds in Organic Farming. A renaissance of the shallow plough appears not to be necessary.
