Summary

Summary translation

The certification in organic production is key for small producers increase income from their products (OLTRAMARI; ZOLDAN; ALTMANN, 2003). There are about 20,000 certified establishments (EPAGRI, 2009) out of a total of 90,000 existing units in Brazil (IBGE, 2006). This fact may be related to high certification costs and the low level of technical knowledge from producers to follow the organic laws enforced at present. As an example, the traceability process as a requirement complex process in order to obtain the organic certification. Thus, this paper aims to verify the acceptance of a traceability model for organic products, applicable to small farms, from the reputable certifiers operating in Parana State. According to the certifiers, this method has all the necessary requirements for an efficient traceability process in the small family-based farms.
