Summary

Summary translation

This research investigates the agroecological movement in Rio Branco do Sul/PR, as a new social movement, looking for to analyze the paths and obstacles in the construction of an ecological paradigm for the production and alimentary commercialization. Since the years 1990 family farmers of Rio Branco do Sul have been converting their units of production for ecological bases as a strategy of reconstruction of their relationships with the nature. Through semi-structured interviews and accumulated data for the programs of Masters degree in Sociology of
UFPR and Doctorate in Environment and Development of UFPR, it is verified that the reasons for the conversion to the ecological agriculture are related to the concerns with the health of the family in first place, but also with the increase possibility in the family income and environmental preservation. Leaning for Non-Governmental Organization and agents of the State, the agroecological movement expanded in Rio
Branco do Sul, as well as in the remaining of the country. But along the history of the agroecological movement the main difficulty didn't appear in the productive sphere, but in the commercialization. The long cycles of commercialization - where the ecological products circulate of the producer, to the food-processing company or association manager, later to the super and hypermarkets, for then to reach the green consumer - they end up submitting the family farmers to the dictates and rationality of the capitalist market, where the food-processing companies and
retailers, many of them of international capital, act for the maximization of the profits and review from the damages to the producers, without considering the environmental rationality aimed at by the agroecological movement. In this impersonal commercialization the ecological products end up following patterns of the market of influenced consumption. But movements as the Rede Ecovida de Agroecologia - formed by farmers, technicians and consumers, organized in groups and associations - they try to work in the sense of building a fairer and solidary market to approximate producers and consuming, stimulating the associative work in the production, commercialization and consumption of ecological foods. The environmentalists actors and social movements, rural and urban, are transforming their social and environmental spaces looking for new manners of producing, to consume and to live, guided the social and environmental sustainability.
