Summary

Summary translation

In Europe carp farming has a long and successful history. Especially in central Europe carp farming has always been an extensive, sustainable, nature-related business. In Bavaria carps have been mainly grown in a way that was similar to organic principles. Therefore this fish species is perfectly suited to be a leading product for organic aquaculture. However, the conversion of conventional carp farms into organic carp farms has not yet been investigated in Germany. Especially in terms of business management the conversion to organic production has to be investigated. The research project will describe the change to organic production and its economic impacts on the basis of break-even analyses of conventional carp farms. This approach should provide guidelines to companies considering the conversion of their fish farms.
