Summary

Summary translation

Experiments have been carried out at two locations in two years in Denmark with the rolling cultivator in potatoes. The objective has been to find out what the minimum number of treatments are to minimise crop damage and to maximise the control effect on annual and perennial weeds. The treatments with the rolling cultivator were carried out at the weed stages of pre-emergence, cotylodon and true leaf. The corresponding number of passes with the implement was 4 or 6, 2 or 3 and 1 or 2. The effect on weed biomass of annual weeds was above 80% with one pass, and above 90% with two passes. The effect on biomass of perennial weeds has been above 50% with more than one pass with the implement. Only in one experiment the yield was reduced (10 %) by mechanical weed control as compared to herbicide weed control, while there was above 50% yield reduction in the untreated plots in all experiments. More treatments tended to reduce yield.
