Summary

12 year old apple-trees 01 the varieties "Elstar" and "Jonagold" were treated with different root pruning techniques. Furthermore, the different root pruning varieties were combined with dillerenl cutting-techniques 01 the crown and different thinning measures 01 the Iruiting wood. It could be shown, that root pruning results in a decrease 01 yield depending 01 the distance to the treetrunk. However, the decrease in yield is compensated by better quality 01 lruit concerning lruit-size, Iruit-colouring, sugar-content and ability 01 storage. As a consequence 01 root pruning alternate bearing 01 Irees is stopped.
