Summary

Summary translation

The crucial problem in organic poultry feeding is the supply of feedstuff with adequate contents of essential amino acids – especially methionine and lysine. The intended conver-sion to 100 % organic feeding obliges to the abdication of protein feedstuffs of conven-tional origin (e.g. potato protein, brewer’s yeast) so far well proven in organic poultry feeding.
In order to obtain a nutrient supply as required, the poultry’s capacity to control the feed intake to a certain extent according to the ingested energy can be used by offering rations with lower energy content to the animals. Due to the increased feed intake with lower en-ergy content more crude protein and therewith essential amino acids can be taken in. Con-sequently the animal requirements for essential amino acids can be met. The feeding trials with broilers and turkeys carried out at the Weihenstephan University of Applied Sciences confirm this approach. Feed mixtures with clearly reduced energy contents (< 12 MJ ME/kg) as well as lowered contents of essential amino acids (eAA) – with constant
eAA : ME ratio – can be successfully used in organic poultry and turkey fattening.
